The Chaffee County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is seeking a dynamic Startup Community Director to spearhead initiatives that enhance the startup community support in Chaffee County. This pivotal role is central to our strategy for economic recovery, resilience, and diversification.

The Role of the Startup Community Director

As the Startup Community Director, you will lead the Central Mountain Entrepreneurs initiative, a comprehensive network designed to support early-stage companies and encourage private sector entrepreneurial activity. This role is funded by a two-year Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) grant, ensuring the resources needed to make a significant impact.

Project Goals and Initiatives

The Central Mountain Entrepreneurs program aims to address community challenges such as housing, healthcare, childcare, and workforce development through economic expansion and diversification. Key initiatives include:

  • Micro Accelerator Program: Develop and execute an accelerator program supporting 10 startups annually with intensive business growth strategies.
  • Access to Capital: Engage new capital sources, including local angel investors and explore a community revolving loan fund.
  • Mentorship Network: Build a robust network of local and statewide experts to support growing firms.
  • Education & Training: Collaborate with partners to create curricula covering Lean Startup methodologies, investor pitch training, team structures, and leadership development.
  • Online Collaboration Platform: Manage the Startup Colorado – Central Mountain Entrepreneurs platform to connect entrepreneurs with essential resources.
  • Meetups & Events: Organize events that foster a culture of collaboration and innovation within the geographically dispersed startup community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Connections: Create meaningful introductions between entrepreneurs, funders, mentors, and ecosystem supports to drive measurable economic development.
  • Content Creation: Develop messaging and manage communication platforms, including newsletters and social media channels.
  • Outreach and Engagement: Recruit and engage partners, contributors, and members to strengthen the startup community support network.
  • Metric Tracking: Develop and maintain systems to track progress and communicate achievements to stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience with entrepreneurs, knowledge of Lean Startup and Startup Community Development concepts.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Experience with starting organizations or small businesses is advantageous.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and group facilitation abilities.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong planning, visioning, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with online collaboration tools, video conferencing, and social media platforms.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead collaboratively without formal authority and interact with diverse groups.

Benefits and Compensation

  • Salary Range: $40,000-60,000 (DOE)
  • Location: Chaffee County, Colorado
  • Benefits:
  • $500 monthly healthcare stipend
  • Flexible work schedule with a hybrid model of in-person and remote work
